” I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”- Rabindranath Tagore
To cherish all our days spent here, we cooked meals together and ate together today, on our last day working with this organization. Everyone was busy at something- those who had cooking skills prepared the dishes, others helped around with washing and cutting vegetables and cleaning. Some went out to the nearby market to buy other kitchen necessities, like curry masalas, salt, pepper and cooking oil. We had a wonderful time, working together happily, with the sole purpose of cooking lunch.
“Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.” – Buddha
We also stuck the chartworks we had worked over in all the classrooms, and it made the dull walls look illuminating and fun. The teachers were extremely grateful, and they appreciated our efforts, for which we were extremely grateful. ” Consciously or unconsciously, everyone of us does render some service or another. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and it will make not only for our own happiness, but that of the world at large.” – Mahatma Gandhi During our little feast, when all the volunteers, caretakers at the organization were dining together, a donation of NRs. 5,001/- from the BBA-BI first semester students from Ace Institute of Management was handed over to CDS. Each volunteer had contributed a little to gather this amount, and we are hopeful that it will used efficiently for the welfare of the children attending this centre. We have been grateful to be given the opportunity to let our philanthropy shine through. I learnt a great deal from this social work programme, organized jointly by Ace College of Management and DRTC. It gave me an opportunity to contribute a little, for the society that has given me so much. It has broadened my horizons to some extent, it has introduced me to lives that are very different from the one that I am accustomed to. It has given me a newer perspective towards life. I won’t ever complain about not having enough pocket-money for lavish expenditures. Everytime I want to waste food, I will remember the hungry looks on those poor childrens’ faces when they devoured the watery and bland soups. Helping to look after the children of manual labourers and giving them the care that they so righteously deserve, I brought grateful smiles into their eyes, and feeding them, pacifying them, seeing them run and play gave me great satisfaction. I will never forget the strange experiences that the last few weeks here have given me.
” Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger
